A 20-year-old Jurupa Valley man who sexually assaulted a teenager babysitting two young family members was sentenced today to 75years to life in prison.
An eight-man, four-woman jury convicted Jose Alberto Galvan last month of forcible rape, sexual penetration resulting in injury, forced oral copulation and witness intimidation, along with sentence-enhancing allegations of kidnapping a victim for rape and committing a burglary during a sexual offense.
Riverside County Superior Court Judge Charles Koosed imposed the sentence mandated by law.
According to trial testimony, the now-17-year-old victim was attacked while alone with her year-old niece and 6-year-old nephew on the night of Feb. 11, 2011.
The victim’s older sister was working.
The teen testified that a hooded intruder broke into her sister’s single-story house in the 5000 block of Marlatt Street in Mira Loma, forcing open the front door while she was in another room and the children were asleep.
She testified that she was grabbed from behind by the assailant, who led her to her sister’s room and forced her onto the bed. The witness said the man, armed with a knife, never showed his face, but she recognized his voice as that of her cousin’s boyfriend.
She testified that she initially tried to resist him, pushing and wiggling, but stopped when he became angry.
“He told me not to scream, ’cause if the babies wake up, he’s going to kill them,” the girl testified. ”I was scared.”
Galvan orally copulated the victim, then began raping her, laughing when she told him she was still a virgin, according to her testimony.
After ransacking an adjacent room and stealing cash and jewelry, the defendant fled the residence, the witness said.
Based on her statements, Galvan was arrested at his Jurupa Valley home two days later.
Sheriff’s detectives said items stolen during the break-in were found at his residence.
