Along the trail: Warmth, ambiance await guests at Keyways Winery

Established in 1989 by Carl Key, Keyways Winery was one of the original properties to help establish Temecula as a winemaking region.

It was owned and operated for a number of years by Terri Delhamer, who completely renovated the property and grounds in an early California Mission-style.  Now owned by Silverton Partners, Keyways offers close to twenty food-friendly wines and a warm ambiance in which to enjoy them.

“We harvested Muscat and Roussane and Viognier this week, so crush season has officially begun,” said tasting room manager Jamey Fidler.  “The crews have been out there picking all night long.”

Over the years, Keyways has become a popular stop for those who enjoy wines on the sweeter side: reds full of jammy fruit, whites with hints of honey and stone fruit and three dessert wines give guests plenty options from which to choose.

“In addition to our wines, we are proud feature White Sangria Saturdays and Red Sangria Sundays,” said Fidler.  “We have live music on the veranda both afternoons and the Sangrias have proven to be very popular.”

Keyways believes in supporting local artists, so guests can expect to see their favorite musicians each weekend.  Next up are Jim Gibson, Jeff Johnson and Dave and the Cousins.

Although longtime guests will appreciate that the new ownership is committed to the same warm atmosphere, excellent customer service and high quality wines for which Keyways is known, changes are indeed afoot.  All good, of course.  One such positive change was the grand opening of the Cork Club Room on Thursday, August 23.

“We wanted our Cork Club members to have a private tasting room, so we created the Cork Club Room,” said Fidler.  “They are thrilled to have an exclusive space where they can enjoy our wines.”

The Keyways tasting room, Vineyard Pavilion, Rose Terrace and Garden Gazebo are available for groups of all sizes to reserve for special events and occasions.

Besides these more traditional spaces, Keyways is now offering the property’s estate — once a private residence — as a vacation rental.  The seven bedroom estate sleeps fourteen and has a private pool and hot tub for guests to enjoy.  Further details can be found on VRBO.

“The estate is a popular rental for out of town guests as well as bridal parties,” said Fidler.  “It is beautifully, but comfortably appointed, so people feel very much at home while getting away from it all right here in Temecula wine country.”

Keyways Winery is located at 37338 De Portola Road, Temecula.
