Blaze erupts south of 91 Freeway in Corona

A fire broke out this afternoon on a Corona golf course south of the Riverside (91) Freeway, quickly spreading toward nearby homes before firefighters gained the upper hand.

The blaze erupted for unknown reasons around 3:50 p.m. at Paseo Grande and Hummingbird Lane, on the west end of the city, according to the Corona Fire Department.

Along with Corona police, firefighters requested assistance from Riverside County sheriff’s deputies and California Highway Patrol officers, fearing flames would reach houses and an elementary school. However, the blaze slowed, giving crews time to get a line around it.

Streets leading into the area remained closed as of 4:30 p.m., according to the CHP.
