Presented by Sports Authority and Sightly, the Murrieta Mud Run and 5K run will resemble an episode of “Wipe Out” with a touch of Halloween, so a little bit of silly is encouraged.
Competitive runners, high school football teammates, office co-workers, Mom’s clubs, police departments and many other groups will dress up in costume and run for their lives across a sludgy field, slippery slopes, mud pits, and obstacles all the way to the finish line, all while trying to keep both shoes on and as little mud in their shorts as possible.
The Murrieta Mud Run is planned for 9 a.m. on Sept. 8 at Town Square Park adjacent to city hall, located at 24501 Jefferson Ave., in Murrieta.
Teams can find fees and registration information at www.Murrieta-mudrun.com. Race categories are Adult Competitive; Adult Non-Competitive; Teens; Families; Police/Fire/Military; and Large Teams (10+).
Costume prizes will be awarded to the top three men and women finishers in the Competitive Wave which starts at 9 a.m. Family-friendly costumes will be judged prior to the run and winners will be announced at the awards ceremony at noon.
Contestants must wear their costume during the race to be eligible for a prize.
An after-party of live music featuring HollyDaze and Roadwork, food and vendors runs until 3 p.m. The festivities also include food, climbing wall, craft and retail vendors.
Anyone interested in volunteering for the event should contact Lisa Long at 951-294-7216 or email to: Lel8@yahoo.com.
