An off-road racing competition in Lake Elsinore tomorrow is expected to draw thousands of spectators and create traffic bottlenecks in the surrounding area, prompting authorities to advise motorists who aren’t planning on attending the event to steer clear.
The Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. Saturday at Motorsports Park, 31919 Cereal St.
Some of the country’s leading dirt bike competitors will be vying for first place while navigating one of the “toughest tracks in the world,”
according to the event website.
Riverside County sheriff’s officials are more concerned with making sure roads leading into and out of the race course don’t become a parking lot.
Mission Trail and Bundy Canyon Road, just off Interstate 15, are where “organizers expect incoming traffic to be constant between 8 a.m. and (noon), and outgoing traffic to be constant from 4 p.m. and 8 p.m.,” according to a sheriff’s statement.
“Drivers not attending this event are encouraged to seek alternate routes during these times as congestion may cause delays,” according to the statement.
