A Texas couple was rescued from the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway area on Saturday Sept. 8 after getting lost after several hours of hiking, officials reported.
The couple told friends they would be spending the day hiking in Mt. San Jacinto State Park and when they didn’t return, their concerned friends called 911.
Preston and Carol Crow decided to stay in one spot and wait for help when they realized they were lost, according to a sheriff’s report.
The Riverside County Sheriff’s Aviation Unit was called out to help find the hikers and located them at the top of the Aerial Tramway, about a mile from the Long Valley Ranger Station.
The hikers were uninjured and appeared to be in good spirits and were escorted the ranger station, Sgt. Kirk Steines said.
The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department would like to remind hiking enthusiasts to carry proper equipment for any outdoor excursion. Proper preparedness includes a well-thought-out travel plan shared with friends and family, as well as familiarity with common hiking equipment, such as G.P.S., maps and compasses.
