Palm Springs police recover suspicious device

Palm Springs police were called in to investigate a suspicious package on Sunrise Way, but it was determined not to be an explosive, officials said today.

A passerby discovered the device during a walk Friday night along North Sunrise Way. Police did not disclose the exact location.

Experts at the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department were called in after police could not safely say what the device was, Palm Springs Police Sgt. Mike Kovaleff said.

The device was recovered and disposed of at 10:16 p.m., Kovaleff said.

No evacuations or road closures were necessary.
