Police also impounded 18 vehicles during the checkpoint, in the 1400 block of G Street.

It began at 10:35 p.m. Saturday and ended at 3:05 a.m. today, said San Diego police officer Mark McCullough.

McCullough said of the 2,519 vehicles that passed through the checkpoint, 820 of those motorists were contacted by officers.
