A 28-year-old La Quinta woman who died in a car crash was identified today.
Leyann Mercer died at the scene of a two-car crash reported about 10:40 p.m. Sunday near Avenue 50 and Park Avenue. The Kia Spectra she was driving west on Avenue 50 veered across the median and was struck by an eastbound Nissan Altima, said sheriff’s Sgt. Randy Vasquez.
“This caused the Nissan to broadside the Kia, fatally injuring the driver (of the Kia),” Vasquez said.
The occupants of the Nissan, a woman and two minors, suffered minor injuries and were transported to Desert Regional Medical Center, Vasquez said.
He said alcohol did not appear to be a factor in the crash, and the cause was under investigation.
