National Weather Service: Severe thunderstorms prompt flood advisory

Update: The National Weather Service has issued  severe thunderstorm warnings for west central Riverside and east central Orange counties.

 

Original Story: Severe thunderstorms are looming over parts of the the south land bringing the possibility of heavy rain, flooding and unstable weather for the second day in a row.

The flood advisory is in effect until 3:15 p.m., this afternoon.

The National Weather Service stated that radar indicated thunderstorms were producing heavy rainfall over portions of San Bernardino County and Riverside County mountains and adjacent foothills.

Runoff from these storms will likely cause urban and small stream flooding in the advised areas.

Locations affected include Big Bear Lake, Cherry Valley, Lake Arrowhead, Running Springs, Yucaipa, Forest Falls, Green Valley Lake and San Gorgonio Mountain.

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause elevated levels on small creeks and streams, NWS offficals advised. Ponding is expected on country roads and farmland along the banks of creeks and streams.
