A civilian died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound today at Memorial Golf Course on the grounds of Camp Pendleton, the Marine Corps reported.

Military medics pronounced the man dead at the scene of the shooting shortly after 10:30 a.m., according to a statement from the northern San Diego County USMC installation.

His name was withheld pending family notification.
