Palm Desert man strikes light pole, arrested on suspicion of DUI

A man allegedly driving while under the influence knocked down a light pole with his car today in Palm Desert, then went into a nearby home, where he was eventually taken into custody, a sheriff’s sergeant said.

Dennis Earl Houser, 47, of Palm Desert, lost control of his sedan while turning onto Carlotta Drive from Hovley Lane East, and the car struck and knocked down a light pole, sheriff’s Sgt. Dan Devinny said.

Witnesses then saw Houser enter a nearby house in the 75000 block of Easy Street, where he was taken into custody about 12:30 p.m., the sergeant said.

“After a house-to-house search, Houser was located and detained,” Devinny said.

Houser was booked at the county jail in Indio, but bail information wasn’t immediately available.
