Hiker becomes stranded in Cleveland National Forest

A young man hiking in the Cleveland National Forest south of Corona today was injured and unable to get out of rugged terrain, prompting authorities to mobilize a rescue.

The hiker — whose identity was not released — called 911 about noon to say he was stranded and needed help, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

Authorities pinpointed his location to a spot west of Skyline Drive, near the boundary separating Orange and Riverside counties.

A fire department helicopter crew was dispatched to retrieve the young man shortly before 1 p.m.

He’s expected to be flown to the hospital for treatment of an unspecified injury after he’s picked up, a fire department spokeswoman said.
