The call came in on Wednesday Sept. 12 just after 1 p.m. prompting authorities to converge on a residence in the 1100 block of 7th Street in Norco.

Smith told dispatchers that he was watching several men climb through a window at the residence, Sgt. Kenneth Violette said.

Sheriff’s deputies along with a Riverside County Sheriffs Department’s K-9 unit and helicopter scoured the area and determined the home to be free of any suspects.

Further investigation revealed the call to 911 was a hoax and a burglary had not occurred, a sheriff’s report stated.

Smith was arrested and booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center and charged with the misuse of the 911 emergency system, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and probation violation.

Anyone with additional information regarding this case in encouraged to contact Deputy Arguello at 951-955-2600.
