A small explosion Wednesday night in the residential area of Crowne Hill in Temecula had residents calling for assistance from Temecula police.
“A plastic bottle exploded in the middle of the street,” said Deputy Lopez, with the Temecula Police Department.
Lopez, describing the container as a 2 liter soda bottle, said that a driver and residents in the 43000 block of Via Sabino heard the explosion and called police.
The explosion was reported at 8 p.m.
There were no injuries or damages reported, Lopez confirmed.
Still, officers remained at the scene to examine the container and its remaining contents to determine what caused the bottle to explode.
According to Lopez, it’s possible the incident was a prank.
Should residents find a similar, suspicious looking device in the street, Lopez said, ” Don’t mess with it. Contact police and let us take care of it.”

Diet coke & mentos?
My first thought was baking soda and vinegar. Diet Coke and Mentos is more modern, but I’m not sure if it will make an explosion loud enough to make people call police.
We went for a walk on Wednesday night, headed down De Portola, right towards Via Sabino (the hill is killer on your legs, especially at the end of the walk) and realized we couldn’t get through because the entire street was closed. Luckily, there’s another street that heads back into the neighborhood, but it added a little more distance to our walk.
