You may have seen them driving around town — the bright red trolley with the yellow logo: Brewen’s Empire Trolley.
SWRNN.com took some time with Amy Brewen, owner and operator of this bustling two-trolley business, and ended up getting to know one of Temecula and Murrieta’s finest transportation and social concierges.
Q: Tell us a little about yourself and your business.
A: I’ve lived in Murrieta for 12 years, and as an event planner I’ve gotten to know many business owners in our community. My two daughters are my support staff, and help with everything from cleaning trolleys to meeting with community partners and are some of my best referrals.
Q: How did you get the idea to start this trolley-themed business in Temecula?
A: Brewen’s Empire Trolley was inspired by Richard Brewen, my father. In his honor, I wanted to carry on his name after he passed in 2007 from pancreatic cancer. Empire indicates our service area of the Inland Empire, although we have since expanded our tour experiences into the greater San Diego and Los Angeles areas. Our fleet of classic vehicles offers clients a unique experience not found elsewhere.
Q: Unique, just like riding on a classic trolley. What are some of these unique experiences?
A: Yes, the classic vehicles hearken back to the classic spirit of the Inland Empire which we’re determined to remember and pay tribute to. I’m thinking a horse-drawn trolley would be an incredible addition to the fleet. I am happy to report the experiences found aboard Brewen’s Empire Trolley now include wedding and rehearsal transportation, brew tours, underground dinner tours, night on the town, taste of the town, day at the races, night at the Storm and Oktoberfest.
Q: What’s your favorite wine country tour that you offer?
A: We offer a Grand Cru experience where you spend the day with an actual Certified Wine Specialist. There is no question too simple or complex for this genuine person who truly enjoys discussing the world of wine. Meet with wine owners, makers and see the production first-hand. You will partake of private tours and barrel tastings. You will still enjoy a delicious lunch, exclusive discounts and souvenir glasses. This is the ultimate wine tour experience, guaranteed not to disappoint.
Q: What’s your favorite memory of a tour experience?
A: Mother’s Day, 2012. We had a trolley full of women who didn’t know each other. As the day went on, they shared stories, tears and laughter. Everyone insisted we would see each other again next year. It was especially poignant for me, as my mom, sister and daughters were on the tour with me. It was a priceless day filled with everything that created my foundation and Brewen’s Empire Trolley’s foundation — relationships and experience.
Q: Where did your slogan, “Life is short. Enjoy the ride” come from?
A. In 2007, I lost my 64-year-old father after only one year of retirement; I lost Kim Pash, my best friend, in 2008. She was only 38. Losing them so closely together hit me to the core of how truly short life can be. There are no guarantees. Enjoy the moment today. To honor them to that end, I ran a marathon, jumped out of an airplane and started my own company, Brewen’s Empire Trolley.
Brewen’s Empire Trolley is located at 38415 Innovation Ct. Ste H, Murrieta.
