An auto burglary suspect grappled with a deputy trying to arrest him in Coachella today, prompting the lawman to fire his service weapon, but no one was hit, a sheriff’s spokesman said.
Someone reported a vehicle burglary shortly after 9 a.m. in the 84000 block of Julia Drive.
When the responding deputy tried to detain the suspect, the man resisted arrest and the deputy fired in fear for his safety, sheriff’s Cpl. Angel Ramos said.
The suspect, whose name was not immediately released, was unhurt and was arrested a short time later, and the officer received minor injuries, Ramos said.
