A 74-year-old man who spent a night in the mountains near Palm Desert was airlifted to safety today uninjured, a sheriff’s spokesman said.
Palm Desert resident John Kelley called for help about 7:30 p.m on Tuesday Sept.18, saying he was stranded near Edgehill Road and Eagle Drive, sheriff’s Cpl. Angel Ramos said.
Rescue workers determined Kelley’s location was inaccessible because of the terrain, darkness and other safety factors and decided to wait until morning to bring the “expert hiker” off the mountain, Ramos said.
“It was too late to rescue him (Tuesday night), so this morning with the use of a helicopter, he was airlifted out” about 7:30 a.m., Ramos said.
