A big rig spilled 150 gallons of diesel fuel when it overturned on eastbound Interstate 10 in Banning today, closing lanes and backing up traffic.
The accident was reported at around 2:00 a.m. on eastbound I-10 at Highland Springs Avenue. The tractor-trailer went over the side of the freeway into a dry creek bed, spilling fuel and requiring a response from hazardous materials officials, Riverside County Fire Department spokeswoman Melody Hendrickson said. No one was injured, California Highway Patrol Officer Joe Zagorski said.
The No. 3 lane was expected to be closed until 11:30 a.m. and the No. 4 lane would be closed most of the day for cleanup, according to the CHP.
CHP dispatchers didn’t know what the truck was carrying.
