Man arrested for allegedly flashing woman in Murrieta

An illegal immigrant who allegedly exposed himself to a Murrieta woman and tried to conceal his identity using a fake driver’s license was behind bars today.

Emelio Gomez Penaloza, 46, was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of indecent exposure and manufacturing a false government-issued identification card — both misdemeanors — after an encounter with a woman in the 40000 block of North End Road.

Around 5:45 p.m. on Wednesday, Penaloza allegedly approached a woman and “exposed his genitals in a sexual manner,” Murrieta police Sgt. Don Weller said in a statement.

He said officers were summoned to the location and were given a description of the suspect, leading to his arrest a short time later.

“Officers located a falsified California driver’s license in the subject’s possession,” Weller said. “It was suspected … that this subject was an undocumented illegal immigrant.”

Penaloza was booked into the Southwest Detention Center in Murrieta. A U.S. Customs and Border Protection hold was placed on him, which prevents his posting bail and could lead to his deportation following the adjudication of the case.
