A male who said he was shot as he stood next to his car after stopping on a road in Mecca was recovering today.
The victim, whose age was not disclosed, told deputies he was driving on Grant Street north of Avenue 66 around 3:25 p.m. Wednesday when he pulled over on the shoulder and got out of his vehicle, said Riverside County sheriff’s Lt. Steve DaSilva.
He said he was standing outside of his vehicle when he heard several gunshots and was struck once, according to DaSilva. He was taken to a hospital for treatment, he said.
No suspect description was made available this morning.
It was unclear what prompted the victim to stop and exit his vehicle.
Anyone with information about the shooting was asked to call the Investigations Bureau at the sheriff’s Thermal Station at 760-863-8990.
