Update: Two killed in Hwy 74 crash identified

Update @ 4:17 p.m. Sept. 22: The Riverside County Coroner’s office has released the names of the two people killed in Friday’s crash.

Nuevo resident Jose Martinez, Jr., 32, was an unrestrained driver of the minivan in the crash and Lake Elsinore resident Jara Corina, 44, was the restrained driver of the SUV.

The two vehicles hit each other head-on, according to the report.

Update @ 10:34 p.m.: According to an updated report from Riverside County Fire Department, there were a total of seven patients _- two were pronounced dead at the scene.

Five were transported to an area hospital via ground ambulance with injuries – two major, one moderate and two minor.

Original: One person was killed and three others were injured Friday in a two-vehicle collision in Lake Elsinore, it was reported.

According to a Riverside County Fire Department report, the crash was first reported at 6:45 p.m. on Highway 74 in Lake Elsinore.

Cal Fire and Riverside County firefighters responded to the scene and found four victims.

Three were transported by ground ambulance with major injuries to local hospitals.

One victim was pronounced dead at the scene, fire officials said.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.

    I saw everything it was so terrifying the crash sounded like thunder or a bomb. U could see two arms hanging out of the white minivan

      I saw it when there was a guy in a tow truck parked next to them and there were people on the side of the road sitting down and a shirtless man. I didn’t see anyone in the vehicles though. Neither The fire dept not ambulance had showed up yet. My prayers go out to them and their families. Did you see it happen?

      Stephanie – my family was in the SUV. The driver died and two others are still hospitalized with non-critical injuries. Would like to hear more of what you saw just to put the pieces of this horrible dream in perspective.

        Hi Joe,

        I would like to hear what happened as well. I worked with Corina and she was a great friend of mine. I miss her so much an am still in shock. My prayers are with her family.

    the van shot across the road and hit the suv head on as it was breaking, there was a truck and another suv, i think it was an explorer, traveling in the same direction as the van at the same time

    MAY THEY ALL REST IN PEACE. I KNOW ALFRED HAD A COUPLE OF CHILDREN….I HOPE THEY ARE DOING A LITTLE BETTER, I CAN’T IMAGINE WHAT THEY ARE GOING THROUGH AS WELL AS HIS WIFE. I AM WAITING FOR THE RESULTS OF THE INVESTIGATION

      Yea, and Corina had three children and four Grandchildren, so imagine how they all feel. Corina was my aunt so i def. know that they are feeling. It is the worst feeling in the world especially since our family is so close and to have lost someone this way is just HORRIBLE!!
