Sheriff’s deputies arrested a homeless man for allegedly assaulting firefighters and deputies as they answered a “man-down” call, a sergeant said today.

Mark Landon, 46, of San Jacinto, was found on Paradise Lane when firefighters responded Saturday to the 8 p.m. call, said Riverside County Sheriff’s Sgt. David Haar.

Landon was allegedly uncooperative and combative with firefighters who then called sheriff’s deputies to help out, Haar said.

The conflict apparently escalated when Landon allegedly resisted the deputies’ efforts to arrest him. One deputy suffered minor injuries during the struggle that also left Landon with cuts and bruises which were treated at a local hospital, Haar said.

Landon was arrested on suspicion of resisting arrest, assault on a firefighter and for being under the influence of a controlled substance, the sergeant said.
