A memorial service for Bethany Hays Johnson will be held at 5 p.m. on Monday, Oct.  1 at Warm Springs Middle School, it was recently announced.

Johnson  passed away on Sept.  22 following a long battle with cancer. She was 36 years old.

Johnson came to Murrieta Valley Unified School District as a new teacher in 2003 right after earning her credential.

Former Principal Tim Custer hired Johnson to teach Language Arts and Social Studies at Warm Springs Middle School.

“Bethany was a leader on campus and teachers looked up to her. She had a keen knowledge of her subject matter and her lessons reflected the love she had for the subject and her desire to reach her students,” Custer said in a released statement.

Warm Springs Principal Mick Wager said, “Bethany was extremely talented, caring, and effective and she was well-loved by staff and students alike. Her positive attitude and sunny disposition were an inspiration to all who knew her. Bethany will be missed by her colleagues, students, family and friends.”

The public memorial service will be held in the Warm Springs Middle School multipurpose room at 39245 Calle de Fortuna in Murrieta.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Johnson’s name may be sent to the Murrieta Valley High Schools Scholarship Foundation at the District Support Center.
