Woman shot by U.S. Border Patrol agent in Chula Vista

A U.S. Border Patrol agent fatally shot a woman in a South Bay neighborhood this afternoon.

The gunfire in the 600 block of Moss Street in Chula Vista was reported about 1 p.m., according to police and federal officials. The woman died at the scene.

It was not immediately clear what led to the shooting, said Ralph Desio, a spokesman for U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

The woman apparently was in a green Honda Accord near Woodlawn Avenue when she was shot, NBC 7 San Diego reported.

Area resident Hector Salazar told the news station he was reading his mail in his home when the deadly shooting occurred a short distance away.

“I just saw an agent with a gun walking toward the car and yelling,” he said. “But the person inside didn’t respond.”
