Coachella man nabbed for suspected DUI

Sheriff’s deputies arrested a Coachella man on suspicion of drunken driving following a collision with a moving vehicle, a sergeant said today.

Witnesses said the driver of a Honda sedan on Friday was heading south on Grapefruit Boulevard when it was making a left turn onto westbound Avenue 52, Riverside County Sheriff Sgt. Betty Jo Adams said.

The Honda collided with the Dodge vehicle driven by Santiago Mendoza Valencia, 33, who also traveled south on Grapefruit Boulevard during the collision that was reported at 9:04 p.m., Adams said. Valencia was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving and remained in jail today, jail records read.

While Valencia escaped injury, the unidentified driver of the Honda was taken to an area hospital with what Adams said was non-life threatening injuries.
