A handful of homes on the south side of Banning were threatened by a brush fire that blackened 300 acres and left one firefighter with a minor injury, firefighters said today.
No evacuations have been ordered as the flames near homes on the northwest side of the fire, which was somehow sparked Saturday evening at Old Banning-Idyllwild Road at Shirleon Drive, said Riverside County Fire Department spokeswoman Jody Hagemann.
Firefighters received calls about the fire at 6:10 p.m.
Three helicopters, four air tankers, 25 fire engines and 10 hand crews were fighting flames today, Hagemann said.
The blaze charred dry brush in a remote area with no containment in sight as firefighters were battling flames in a steep uphill terrain, Hagemann reported.
On Saturday several abandoned vehicles and an outbuilding were destroyed.
