Blaze engulfs Banning home, threatens nearby houses

A fire erupted in a Banning home today, quickly spreading through the single-story structure and threatening neighboring residences.

The non-injury blaze was reported around 12:35 p.m. in the 1500 block of Williams Street, near 14th Street, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

A dozen engine crews, numbering around 40 personnel, arrived to find the structure “fully involved,” a fire department spokeswoman said.

Witnesses reported hearing several explosions in the house, but the source couldn’t immediately be identified.

Firefighters were working to prevent the flames from spreading to residences on either side of the burning home, according to the fire department.

It was not clear whether it was occupied.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
