Two men who robbed and assaulted at least two people, who were pulled from a vehicle at gunpoint while momentarily stopped in Coachella, were at large today, along with the female getaway driver.
The victims were westbound on Avenue 52 when the driver stopped at a stop sign at Calhoun Street around 7:50 p.m. and a dark sedan driven by a woman stopped in front of the vehicle.
Two men jumped out brandishing handguns and one of them fired at the victims’ vehicle, striking the front windshield, sheriff’s Sgt. Mike Tapp said.
“The victims were pulled from their vehicle and assaulted by the suspects, who demanded property from them,” Tapp said.
They complied, escaping injury, and the suspects drove off in the sedan, according to the sergeant, who didn’t specify the number of victims or their genders.
All of the suspects were described as Hispanic.
One of the male suspects was wearing a gray T-shirt, and the other was clad in an Oakland Raiders T-shirt. There was no further description of the female getaway driver.
