Riverside: Toddler killed when he crawled underneath SUV identified

The Riverside County Coroner’s Office identified the year-old boy who crawled underneath an SUV and was fatally run over Tuesday.

The boy, Laith Kahalah, apparently climbed out of his car seat and crawled under the vehicle in the 2500 block of Grambling Way, just north of Amethyst Street, according to the coroner’s office.

Witnesses told officers the toddler’s mother got out of the family’s Mercedes-Benz SUV and placed her son, still strapped to the safety car seat, on the sidewalk while busying herself with another task inside the vehicle.

The boy apparently got out of the seat and crawled under the SUV, where he was killed when someone drove the vehicle away.
