Update @ 9:45 p.m. Oct. 6: According to a Riverside County Coroner’s report, the man who was shot and killed by a Lakeland Village homeowner during an alleged break-in was identified as 51-year-old Lake Elsinore resident William Ragsdell.
Original: A man who allegedly attempted to break into a Lake Elsinore home today was fatally shot by the occupant.
The shooting happened around 5 a.m. in the 33100 block of Zellar Street, in a community known as Lakeland Village.
“The reporting party informed sheriff’s dispatch that he had fired one gunshot at the intruder as the intruder was entering the residence,” said sheriff’s Sgt. Brian Reno. “Deputies arrived within minutes and located a white male adult suffering from a gunshot wound.”
The man, who has not been identified, was rushed to a hospital, where he died a short time later.
Homicide investigators are looking into the details.
The homeowner was not arrested.
