Rafael Delfin, 38, was booked on suspicion of battery on a child and battering the referee who was not injured when Delfin allegedly kicked him in the leg, Riverside County Sheriff’s Sgt. Radek Horkel said.

The boy was taken to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries, Horkel said.

Horkel said Delfin, a spectator, allegedly ran into the soccer field at the Thousand Palms Community Park in reaction to a call the referee made during the match.

The alleged battery was reported at 11:30 a.m., Horkel said.
