Man shot in chest during road rage brawl on Ortega Highway

A car to car scuffle that broke out on the Ortega Highway on Friday Oct. 5 at 7 p.m., resulted in one man shooting another man in the chest, sheriff’s deputies reported.

Officers learned that after the road rage incident the cars pulled over on the Ortega Highway near Grand Avenue and two occupants got out and approached the man in the second car, Sgt. Todd Pauling stated.

Wildomar resident Michael Economides fired a shot, striking one of the approaching men in the chest. He then sped off in his vehicle and was later found in a school parking lot on Grand Avenue.

The suspect was arrested and booked into the Southwest Detention Center on charges of attempted murder and assault with a firearm, Sgt. Pauling said in a sheriff’s press release.

The shooting victim was transported to a nearby hospital.  His condition is not known at this time.
