According to Riverside County Sheriff’s deputy Sgt. Ken Chaffin, the accident occurred at approximately 12:50 p.m. at Spring Street and Graham in Lake Elsinore.

“Basically, she was exiting (a van) when she jumped in the path of the vehicle and was struck. Actually, sort of sideswiped,” Chaffin said.

Lake Elsinore resident Tony Sanchez, 36, said he witnessed the child stepping out of the van and heard screams.

Chaffin described the child’s injuries as “moderate” and added that she may have a broken leg.

“She’s going to be fine,” Chaffin said, adding it’s important for parents to “keep an eye on their children at all times.”
