The response by deputies from the Malibu/Lost Hills Station was generated by a 911 emergency call about 1:40 a.m., and “it was determined to be false,” said Nicole Nishida of the sheriff’s department.

Nishida declined to confirm a TMZ.com report that the residence was that of singer Justin Bieber.

According to TMZ, the caller claimed someone was waving a gun next to Bieber’s home, and the singer’s security detail allowed authorities to search the residence.

So-called “swatting” pranks — aimed at provoking a large SWAT-type police response — recently targeted Miley Cyrus and Ashton Kutcher.
