What’s on for the Weekend: Clams, Corn and Ghostly So Cal haunts

Happy Wednesday! The weekend is nearly here, so here are a few things you can do to have a little fun during your much-deserved break:

Vampires at Vail Lake

Get ready for the ghoulish, truly spooky Vampire Vail Halloween Festival at Vail Lake Resort. Guests are invited to take part in a Haunted Hay Ride, a Jurassic Forest that features lifelike sculptures of the prehistoric creatures, courtesy of local artist Ricardo Breceda and more. The weekend event runs from 4 p.m. to midnight on Oct. 12-13, 19-20, and 26-27.

Parade of Planes in Palm Springs

The Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association Aviation Summit will feature more than 70 planes taxiing from Palm Springs International Airport to the Palm Springs Convention Center, where the convention will be held Oct. 11-13. For information on the conference, go to www.aopa.org/summit.

Field of Screams: The Haunted Stadium

500 Diamond Drive, Lake Elsinore

What better way to get pumped up for Halloween? All the creepiest, craziest pranks will be waiting for you at the 6th Annual “Field of Screams: The Haunted Stadium” at The Diamond in Lake Elsinore. Doors open to the public now through Halloween.

Clam Bake at Bel Vino Winery

Bel Vino’s Harvest Clam Bake will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 13. Tickets for wine club member are $65, non-members $75. Prices include four glasses of wine or beer. Additional live Maine Lobsters are available for purchase for $25. Reservations are required and tickets are non-refundable. Miramar Air Show

Look to the skies at Miramar in San Diego for one of the most exciting sky shows in the nation. This popular annual event takes flight Oct. 11-14. Admission, parking and blanket seating are free.

Haunted spots in San Diego

Halloween will soon be here and that’s when the ghosts of Southern California –- most especially those in San Diego –- are expected to make their frightening reappearances at notable local landmarks. This is your chance to see some truly spooky sights.

Julian Apple Harvest

The forecast calls for temperatures to start cooling. So, why not take a quick drive east of Temecula to Julian where the popular apple harvest is currently underway through Oct. 21. Get your fill of apples and perhaps stop for a slice of warm pie.

You know it is officially fall when Temecula’s Big Horse Feed & Mercantile opens its popular corn maze and fall fun to thousands of residents and fans throughout the region. The festivities officially kick off Oct. 6 and run through Halloween.

Music is always happening at The Merc in Old Town Temecula. Friday’s feature good old fashioned rock ‘n roll and Saturday’s ImproVacations at 7 p.m. Tickets are $15. Then, it’s Classics at The Merc at 3 p.m. on Sunday. Tickets are $11.
