Palm Desert: Driver plants pickup in planter, arrested

A Cathedral City man lost control of his GMA Sierra pickup truck while making a U-turn, drove over a sidewalk and ended up on a raised planter, and was arrested for suspicion of drunken driving, a sheriff’s sergeant said.

Robelo Barbosa-Cruz, 24, was arrested Saturday following the vehicular mishap that erupted in the middle of southbound Portola Avenue, south of Chaparral Road, said Riverside County Sheriff’s Sgt. Patrick Carroll.

The crash was reported at 4:12 p.m.

Barbosa-Cruz, who drove alone, was not hurt, Carroll said.
