The incident occurred shortly before 4 p.m. on Oct. 16 in the area of Agave and Cactus in Moreno Valley, according to a Riverside County Sheriff’s Department report.

“(The student) was walking home from Vista del Lago High School when a Hispanic male adult, driving an older blue extended cab truck, pulled up alongside (her) as she was walking. The driver said something and then slid over to the passenger seat of the truck. The driver grabbed the juvenile’s backpack and attempted to pull the juvenile into the truck,” the report said.

The student screamed, along with another student who yelled at the driver, causing him to release the backpack.

The driver fled the area on Agave and turned in an unknown direction, officials said.

The suspect was described as a heavy-set Hispanic male about 40 years old, unshaven, dark hair with a fade-style haircut and  wearing a gray shirt and blue jeans.

The Moreno Valley Police Department is asking anyone with information on the incident to contact Sergeant Alfonso Campa at 951-486-6700.
