Firefighters battled a four-acre fire at a rock quarry in Banning this afternoon.
The non-injury blaze was reported about 2 p.m. at Sunset Avenue and Shirleon Drive.
The fire spread from the bottom of the quarry, and firefighters expected to be at the scene for several hours “due to heavy smoke and refuse,”
Riverside County Fire Department spokeswoman Melody Hendrickson said shortly before 3 p.m.
The cause was under investigation.
