A man traveling southbound on Interstate 15 allegedly passed out and launched off the freeway about 175 feet down and embankment ultimately landing inside a storage container, CHP officials reported today.
According to an eyewitness, a blue mid-size car passed him at a high rate of speed near the Border Patrol Checkpoint just south of Temecula at around 5 p.m.
“The driver then came upon slow moving traffic and swerved to avoid a collision, moved across the freeway and flew down an embankment,” CHP officer Randy Cooper explained.
Officer Cooper said drinking and driving do not appear to be a factor in the crash and that the man apparently has a medical condition that caused him to pass out.
“It really is miraculous that the driver was uninjured or killed,” Officer Cooper added.
Traffic slowed in the area but is expected to ease up in the evening hours.
