Comedy king Bobcat Goldthwait to perform at Aces in Murrieta

One of the true comedic titans of the 1980s and 1990s, Bobcat Goldthwait, is set to bring his unique stand-up routine to Murrieta.

Known for his crazy, acerbic, high-energy musings delivered via a one-of-a-kind gruff, yet high-pitched scream, Bobcat will perform two shows: 7:30 and 9:30 p.m. on Nov. 16-17 at Aces Comedy Club.

Understandably, Aces co-owner Rocky Osborn, a stand-up comedian and magician himself, is extremely excited about this huge booking.

“He’s my all-time favorite comedian and the main reason why I wanted to get into comedy myself,” Osborn said.  “Plus it’ll be my birthday, so I’m excited.”

Sure, Father Time has taken his long locks and his high-pitched screech may have been retired, but don’t fool yourself — Bobcat is as topical, entertaining and funny as ever.  Possibly even funnier.

“The main difference between Bobcat’s old act and what he does now is simple — he’s now a storyteller,” Osborn explained.  “His crazy, outrageous, screaming style has been replaced by talking about his experiences and his perspective on his early comedic years.  He’s never been better.”

Besides being one of the most popular and instantly recognizable comedians in the stand-up world, Bobcat gained a bigger audience with his roles in the “Police Academy” movie franchise. He parlayed that success into becoming a well-respected film and TV director and screenwriter.

But his love for the time honored tradition of telling jokes and making people laugh while on stage, whether it be a small nightclub or large theater, never escaped him.  Comedy is in his blood.

Osborn takes it a step further.

“He’s a true pioneer. Bobcat is one of the first comedians to have a ‘stage act’ beyond just telling jokes, which paved the way for comedians such as Carrot Top and Larry The Cable Guy.”

Aces is new to the local comedy scene, but has quickly become a major So Cal venue.  Touring comedians and big name entertainers such as J.J. Walker are now making sure that when in the LA and San Diego areas, they book a weekend worth of shows at Aces.

A spacious room that seats 170, Aces is unique in that, besides the traditional tables for four, they also offer VIP seating which includes loveseat rocker recliners for two -= perfect for date night.  They’re also planning on expanding by the end of the year to increase their capacity to over 300.

“We don’t really compete with Pechanga (which also has a comedy room), so we’re really the only comedy club in the area. I want to book bigger names like Bobcat, so in order do so, we need to expand.  Everything should be completed by the end of November,” Osborn said.

That’s exciting stuff.  And so is the chance to see one of the true comedic legends of our time perform in our own backyard.  Don’t miss it.

Aces Comedy Club is located at 39745 Avenida Acacias, #B, Murrieta
