Cabazon woman sentenced to 62 years to life for sexually abusing daughters

A Cabazon mother who molested her three young daughters for years was sentenced today to 62 years to life behind bars.

Pamela Jean Grubb, 48, was convicted Sept. 26 of four counts of lewd acts on a child under 14 years old and one count of sexual penetration of a minor with a foreign object, as well as a sentence-enhancing allegation of victimizing multiple children.

Jurors took less than three hours to return verdicts in the case.

Riverside County Superior Court Judge Jeffrey Prevost imposed the sentence required by law, after denying a motion by defense attorney Mary Bernal to have her client’s mental competence re-evaluated.

During the trial, Grubb’s youngest daughter, now 15, testified that her mother physically and sexually abused her, telling Riverside County Deputy District Attorney Elan Zekster that she and her two older sisters endured mistreatment at their mother’s hands for three to four years before they were finally placed in the sole custody of their father.

Wayne and Pamela Grubb’s marriage disintegrated when the latter’s schizophrenia grew progressively worse, according to Bernal. The couple divorced in 2005.

Their youngest daughter said her mother kissed her breasts and fondled her “privates.” She said there were frightening and bizarre incidents involving her mother and unknown men the defendant brought home.

On one occasion, Pamela Grubb forced her youngest and middle daughters to watch her have intercourse with a man while another man held a knife on the two girls, according to testimony.

When Zekster asked why the child didn’t immediately reveal the episode to her father — who had been at work — the girl replied, “I was scared. I was constantly scared.”

The abuse occurred when the girls were between 3 and 15 years old, according to court papers. Grubb’s oldest daughter is now 22, and her second child is 17.

The eldest child said she was forced to watch pornographic films with her sisters and perform “sexual massages” for the benefit of the defendant.

The middle daughter testified that when she was less than 10 years old, her mother inserted a tampon in her while she was trying to sleep.

According to court records, Grubb was briefly treated for mental instability at Patton State Hospital in 2010 but was later deemed to be competent to stand trial.
