Loud booms may rattle the region Saturday due to Pendleton mortar training

Marines at Camp Pendleton will be conducting live- fire artillery and mortar training starting Saturday morning and the explosions may be heard up to 50 miles away, base officials said today.

The training is scheduled near the center of the base each day between 6 a.m. Saturday and 2 a.m. Tuesday, then from 6 a.m. to midnight through Nov. 2, according to Camp Pendleton’s public affairs office.

Fallbrook, Oceanside and San Clemente may be able to hear the booms, depending on atmospheric conditions.
