San Diego County officials announced Friday they need workers to staff polling places for the Nov. 6 general election.

People who speak Chinese and Vietnamese especially are needed, according to the registrar of voters office.

Fill-ins also are needed in case anyone planning to work the election drops out unexpectedly.

Poll workers receive a stipend ranging from $75 to $175 depending on the assignment. Bilingual poll workers get additional $15 if they are assigned to provide language assistance.

Prospective poll workers must be U.S. citizens, eligible to be registered voters in the state of California and have transportation to their assigned polling location, according to the registrar’s office.

Depending on the job assignment, they may need access to the Internet for online training and attend a two-hour class.

Among the cities and communities that need poll workers are Carlsbad, Del Mar Heights, Encinitas, Mira Mesa and Rancho Penasquitos.
