Riverside: Garage fire spreads to home

A garage fire in Riverside sent burning embers to another detached garage of a nearby home, and was under investigation today, a battalion chief said.

Thirty-six firefighters battled the flames Saturday at a home in the 3900 block of Rosewood Place where the detached garage caught on fire, Riverside Fire Battalion Chief LaWayne Hearn said. Dispatchers received a 911 call reporting the blaze at 6:33 p.m., Hearn said.

Embers fanned out to the detached garage of a second home in Rosewood Place and sparked a fire there that spread to the attic, Hearn said.

Damage to the second home had displaced the family living there, Hearn said.

A neighbor living near the scene suffered smoke inhalation but did not seek medical attention, Hearn said. No one was seriously injured, he said.

The cause behind the first garage fire is undetermined but is being investigated, Hearn said.
