Police today identified the victim of a slaying in a Huntington Beach home as the wife of the suspect, who remains under guard in a hospital recuperating from self-inflicted stab wounds.
Nelson Tuiolosega, 57, called relatives and threatened to kill himself, prompting his family to call police at 9:45 a.m. Monday, Huntington Beach police Lt. Mitch O’Brien said.
Officers who arrived at the home at 15555 Huntington Village Lane found Heather Tuiolosega, 47, dead inside the home and Tuiolosega suffering from self-inflicted stab wounds, O’Brien said.
Tuiolosega remained in critical condition today at UCI Medical Center in Orange, O’Brien said.
Physicians believe he will survive, the sergeant said.
Investigators were not revealing details of the victim’s wounds, O’Brien said. An autopsy was being done today, he added.
Investigators do not know what motivated the attack.
There were no witnesses to the conflict, so police will have to talk to Nelson Tuiolosega to get a better handle on what happened, O’Brien said.
Frank Trevino, a neighbor, told ABC7 that the man’s son ran from the house “very distraught, saying that his father had killed or stabbed his stepmother.”
O’Brien could not confirm how long the couple had been together or whether they had any children.
