Olympic swimming gold medalist Janet Evans will make an appearance in Palm Desert on Saturday Nov. 3, a city spokesman said today.
Evans, a former world record-holder who won gold medals for the United States at the 1988 and 1992 Olympics, will speak, sign autographs and display her medals at the Palm Desert Aquatic Center from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.
The free event is organized by YMCA of the Desert, city spokesman David Hermann said.
Evans won five Olympic medals, four of them gold, and 45 American titles. In 1987, the Orange County native broke world records in the 400-meter, 800-meter and 1,500-meter freestyle events.
She won three individual gold medals in those events at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, South Korea.
The Palm Desert Aquatic Center is at 73751 Magnesia Falls Drive.
