The annual Indio International Tamale Festival will be held the first weekend in December, and parade entries are being accepted, a city employee said Wednesday.

The 21st annual festival will start Dec.1 with a parade at Miles Park, which ends on Wilson Street. Parade entries are encouraged to use cornhusks as decoration, Indio community services manager Jim Curtis said.

More than 60 vendors sell over 300,000 tamales over the weekend, Curtis said.

The festival, which is Dec. 1 and 2, also includes arts and crafts, a carnival, tamale eating contests and live entertainment. The parade includes floats, high school marching bands and custom cars.
