A witness reported that a man forced a girl from her bicycle into a car on Airport Boulevard in Thermal, but a dragnet was unable to spot the suspect’s car or any other clues, deputies said today.
No missing child report was apparently filed in the hours after the 3:50 p.m. incident.
In spite of what a passerby told deputies Friday, Riverside County Sheriff’s Sgt. Steve DaSilva said today that it remains unknown if the kidnapping, or attempted kidnapping, actually happened in the area of Airport Boulevard, east of Jackson Street.
The witness reported seeing what looked like a yellow 1990s Ford Focus, or some other four-door car, pull up alongside the girl who was pedaling west on the south side of Airport Boulevard, grab her off the bicycle and force her into the car, DaSilva said.
The suspect then fled west in his vehicle on Airport Boulevard.
But sheriff’s deputies searched the area with the help of a California Highway Patrol helicopter for several hours and couldn’t find the suspect, the girl, the car or a discarded bicycle, DaSilva said.
The suspect was described as a medium-built black man in his 30′s with short hair who wore a black jacket and blue jeans, DaSilva said.
