Mecca: Pedestrian critical after being struck by truck

A pedestrian was struck by a tractor trailer in Mecca this afternoon and suffered critical injuries.

The person, whose name was not available, was struck shortly after 4 p.m. on Highway 111 at Salt Creek Beach, according to the California Highway Patrol and Riverside County Fire Department.

The pedestrian was airlifted to a local hospital, county fire spokeswoman Melody Hendrickson said.
